Escondido Golf and Lake Club

Course Feature - Escondido Golf & Lake Club - AvidGolfer Magazine

Escondido golf club is an absolutely beautiful golf course that I have had the opportunity to play on multiple occasions. It is located in Horseshoe Bay, TX, and is very close to Lake LBJ. This golf course is about as good as it gets.

The golf course itself is always kept in great condition with the greens rolling around 11-13 on the Stimpmeter year round. The course is set up to be a good test of your game but allows you to score the ball very well if you can keep the ball in front of you. The course shows its teeth if you miss the fairway too wide, but if you are able to keep it in the fairway then you have a good chance of putting a really good round together. The fairways and tee boxes are zoysia grass so it is very difficult to not have a good lie most people would call this a ball striker's paradise, and they would be right. This course proves how good of a ball striker you are and forces you to hit shots to put yourself into position to score, but rewards your good shots with good greens that roll true and give you many opportunities for birdies. Escondido also has a great mix of short par 4s and long par 4s that give you the opportunity to play aggressively on the short ones and then play smart on the longer holes.

The practice facilities are some of the best I have ever seen with a chipping green that allows for you to hit up to 40-yard shots I also have the green be the same as the course so you can really see how the greens on the course react to your chips. Their range is double sided so you can practice into different winds and work on your hold shots depending on where the wind is going and vice versa.

The service and amenities at Escondido are top of the class and they always exceed the expectation of what it looks like to run a golf club. They have comfort stations stocked with food and drinks in holes 2 and 14 and then they have a cookout station positioned between holes 9 and 10. The food is always really good and the staff is always willing to help in whatever way possible. Escondido is a private course with not a lot of members so they do not even have tee times out there, but instead, you just go off to play whenever you choose so that aspect of the course is the most appealing.
