The Plantation Golf Club
The Plantation Golf Club
The Plantation Golf Club is located in La Quinta, California. This is one of the coolest experiences I have ever had at a golf course. This golf is an all-men's club so it is very exclusive and a lot of celebrities have played it. Michael Jordan and Phil Mickelson are 2 famous names to have played and Phil even has the course record. The coolest part about the course though, other than how pretty it is, is that they don't want anybody using their phones a lot out there and it is all about experiencing the course for yourself.
The course itself is a magnificent work of art and is a phenomenal example of architectural design. It is lined by palm trees on nearly every single hole and multiple holes that provide risk-reward shots over water making it inviting, but dangerous at the same time to go for it. The course provides a lot of opportunities to make birdies which is obvious because the course record is 58, but also has many challenging holes where par is a great score. The course is also kept very well and the greens typically run around a 12 which is very fast. The green complexes are eloquently designed to make it easy to hit the green, but difficult to get up and down if you miss the green. They also created a hole that resembles 12 at Augusta as seen in the photo above. The cool part about the hole is there are 2 different sets of tee boxes with different angles to play it with less water in play or to play the hole where you have to cover the water entirely which makes it more exciting.
The practice facilities are very solid, but the only negative would be that the range is too small to be able to hit drivers, but that is the only downside about the facilities. The range is kept in great shape and they have 2 sides to be able to practice in different winds. They also have a short game area that is top-notch and provides the opportunity to hit up to 80-yard wedge shots and hit to a green that is just like the course.
The clubhouse and services are very well run with a lot of tradition as the foundation for the course. They have low round scores on plaques from many years ago to show how long the course has been around and the different course records they have had.
