10 Best Golf Courses I have Played

Bayou DeSiard Country Club       Bayou DeSiard Country Club is located in Monroe, LA. This was one of the most fun and interesting courses I have played. I had the privilege of playing this course in the summer when it was over 100 degrees and very humid. The course was in phenomenal shape though. The thing that makes this course interesting is the layout. The layout is like nothing I have really seen before which made it a challenge, but a fun one to play. In most courses, you can see a pattern from the architect on how he styles his courses whether that may be lots of dog legs or lots of straight holes with obstacles such as bunkers and hazards. With this course though, there is a mix of everything with a lot of different styles of holes which makes you think more. The greens are also very firm and fast making the longer holes that much tougher to be able to hit the green and get it close.     The course is very old-fashioned and has been around since 1948.  The Plantation Golf Club The Plantation Golf Club     The Plantation Golf Club is located in La Quinta, California. This is one of the coolest experiences I have ever had at a golf course. This golf is an all-men's club so it is very exclusive and a lot of celebrities have played it. Michael Jordan and Phil Mickelson are 2 famous names to have played and Phil even has the course record. The coolest part about the course though, other than how pretty it is, is that they don't want anybody using their phones a lot out there and it is all about experiencing the course for yourself.     The course itself is a magnificent work of art and is a phenomenal example of architectural design. It is lined by palm trees on nearly every single hole and multiple holes that provide risk-reward shots over water making it inviting, but dangerous at the same time to go for it.  Escondido Golf Club     Escondido golf club is an absolutely beautiful golf course that I have had the opportunity to play on multiple occasions. It is located in Horseshoe Bay, TX, and is very close to Lake LBJ. This golf course is about as good as it gets.     The golf course itself is always kept in great condition with the greens rolling around 11-13 on the Stimpmeter year round. The course is set up to be a good test of your game but allows you to score the ball very well if you can keep the ball in front of you. The course shows its teeth if you miss the fairway too wide, but if you are able to keep it in the fairway then you have a good chance of putting a really good round together. The fairways and tee boxes are zoysia grass so it is very difficult to not have a good lie most people would call this a ball striker's paradise, and they would be right.  Spanish Oaks Golf Club     The next course I will talk about on the blog is Spanish Oaks Golf Club in Austin, TX. This is the course I grew up on and what really gave me a love for golf courses at a young age. This is by far one of the most fun golf courses I have played with the way that it is designed. The course is set up for difficult tee shots to the eye, but if you can place it in the fairway and see the whole for the way that it is then you can score well and compete out there. A lot of the holes require you to be creative off the tee and see the whole not only for what it is, but what it can be. This is because the holes out there can be played from various spots on the hole and there is no one way to get it right. On top of the off-the-tee shots, the par 3's are designed to perfection and have such a beautiful layout with most of them having water to cover to get to the green.  Maridoe Golf Club     Next up on the list of some of my favorite golf courses is Maridoe Golf Club in Carrollton, Texas. Some people may disagree with this pick as it is a very difficult course and most people don't like it because of that. I absolutely love it because of the level of difficulty and how challenging it is for any golfer that comes to play it. This course is a shot makers course and you have to be very creative to be able to play well and score it out there. That's what I love about is that is what golf is all about. The course tips out at 7800 plus yards which is an absolutely absurd distance compared to the average PGA Tour courses that play at about 7000-7300 yards. Also, Maridoe has a course rating over 80 from the back tees which means with all the difficulty factored in an even par round the course rating would be 8 over par which is absurd and shows just how difficult this golf course is. Grayhawk Golf Club - Raptor Course   The next course on the list is the current host of the NCAA Golf Championships for both men's and women's teams. Grayhawk Golf Club is an absolutely incredible golf course located in Scottsdale, AZ. It's a stunning desert golf course with an incredible layout and kept in impeccable shape. The course is a tough test of golf and is one of the hardest desert golf courses I have ever seen or played. Typically desert golf courses allow for people to score very well, but this golf course makes a difficult for every golfer to play well with the distance they play the course and the strategic hazards and traps the course puts into play to trip up even the best golfers into making big numbers and facing tough tests. The course sets up great for the NCAA Golf Championships for some of the best golfers to put on display the talent they have on this golf course.
